Voted most talented of my high school class, I pursued a career in the performing arts upon high school graduation. I entered Hunter University in Manhattan four years later. Then transferred to Albright College, Reading, PA.
As a pre-med student I got as far as my junior year. I was not prepared for study of the sciences. I had not had trigonometry and chemistry and other science courses in high school. My studies were stressful.
One morning I awakened hearing voices. My mother took me to my doctor in Manhattan. He put me on Thorazine and Stellazine. I also saw a psychoanalyst. I lived with my cousins in Westchester, a suburb of Manhattan. As the months went by I stopped hearing voices. I returned to Albright and became ill once more. This time I saw a psychiatrist in the Reading hospital. I changed my major once more. This time to English Literature and got a Bachelor of Arts in 1969.
For a short time I taught high school in a suburb of Philadelphia.
Then I moved back to Manhattan. I was an interpreter and associate producer for documentaries for RAI-TV (National Italian television). I helped make at least 15 documentaries. Then did a documentary for RKO-General and ABC-TV. For an unknown reason I took myself off the meds and lost everything: my job, my apartment and a beau who had talked of marriage.
My parents and extended family had moved to Florida. When I was released from the New York Hospital, I moved to be with them. Luckily I had met Peter and he would be there for me.
