Addiction
Addiction is the loss of freedom
It is the sacrifice of the soul
The compelling sense of direction
That makes you out of control
The "oughts" and "shoulds" of life are buried
By a daily death that takes its toll
Leaving a hollow self in parts that remains not whole
Addiction is the loss of freedom,
The compulsion is always there
Whether work, drugs, or religion
Your addiction does not care
Are your synaptic gaps at fault
Or it is society that has made the assault?
Whatever the way, throughout everyday
Addiction gives you little say
And makes all who know you continue to pay
