Secretary Bob Butterworth today announced that Director Bill Janes, of the Florida Office of Drug Control, will be joining the Children and Families team as Assistant Secretary for Substance Abuse and Mental Health effective June 4, 2007. Mr. Janes will serve in a dual role, maintaining his position as Director of the Office of Drug Control.
Mr. Janes will oversee the operations of all Substance Abuse and Mental Health staff throughout the state, replacing Ken DeCerchio who is leaving the Department to pursue other professional opportunities.
Prior to his appointment as Director of the Office of Drug Control, Janes served as Director at the National Terrorism Preparedness Institute at St. Petersburg College from 2002 to 2006. Before that he was a counselor, manager and executive director for the Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office (DACCO) in Tampa from 1992 to 2002. DACCO’s comprehensive programs provide prevention, intervention and treatment programs for youth and adults. He helped form one of the first substance abuse and mental health collaborations in Florida, the Central Florida Behavioral Health Network. Mr. Janes served a full career in the United States Army and retired as a Colonel of Armor.
